Best All 'round Rider Report
Garage riders ended the 2007 road race season with a healthy haul of state championship "BARR" points. In the Cat 1/2 field, Chris Teufel rode to 5th place overall on the strength of victory in the state time trial -- thanks to a 6-second cushion over Ian Tubbs of Hagens Berman. Other Garage riders featuring in the final state tally included Nikos Mills, Pete Groblewski, Kevin Masterson, and Jason Bethel. Overall the Cat 1/2 team finished 3rd in the team BARR competition.
Garage Cat 3 riders fared even stronger with Joshua Gunn taking the honors as overall winner of the 7-race BARR points series. Arriving at the Crystal Mountain Hill Climb Time Trial, Gunn trailed Omnium and Road Race winner Adam Schwind of First Rate Mortgage. But Gunn climbed like a lynx to win the race and enough points to land him atop the State BARR podium. Closely behind was Kyle Farrell, who started racking up points in late July and finished in the money for the final four races including a 3rd place in the State time trial and a 3rd place in the Crystal Mountain hill climb.
Other Garage Cat 3 riders earning BARR points included Aaron Lavin (2nd in the State Circuit Race), Dan Hazzard (7th and 8th in Circuit Race and State Crit), and Tom Wick (2nd in Team Time Trial along with Josh, Aaron, and Kyle).
Not to be outdone, Alex Rosenast proved to be a force in the Master Bs, earning 4th in the overall BARR standings. Alex placed third in the state circuit race, 2nd in the time trial, 3rd in the Omnium, and 3rd in the Crystal Mountain hill climb.
The 7-race BARR points series includes the following:
